Responsible gaming

Gambling always carries risk, and no way of playing removes it. This page covers what can be decided in advance, the signs worth watching for in yourself, and what to do when you notice them.

Start from these

  • Services of this kind are for people aged 18 and over only.
  • Every round is independent of the one before it. Nothing is being stored up for anyone.
  • Gambling is not a way to make an income, and it is not a way out of a financial problem.
  • Chasing a loss makes the loss larger, not smaller.

Decide in advance

Four things that are far easier to decide before you start than during

A ceiling for the session

Pick an amount you could lose without it changing anything, and do not top it up along the way.

How long you will play

Set an alarm first: a game screen has no clock on it, and time passes faster than it feels.

A stopping point

Set one for when it goes well and one for when it does not, and keep to both.

What you will not do

For example: not with borrowed money, not while upset, and never to win back what has gone.

Signs worth noticing

If any of these fits, treat it as something to deal with rather than as a small thing

  • Regularly playing longer, or for more, than you meant to
  • Hiding the amount or the time from people close to you
  • Borrowing, or using money set aside for something else
  • Feeling you have to continue in order to recover a loss
  • Feeling irritable or restless when you are not playing
If it stops feeling like a choice Stop, and talk to somebody you trust. Local support services for this exist and are worth contacting, and restricting your own access — to an account, or to a payment method — is something you can do immediately without waiting for anyone.
